EU and UK ban Projectors in Education and Business environments

The EU has announced that as of 1 January 2026, educational institutions and businesses can no longer purchase lamp-based projectors or replacement lamps.

Why?

The bulbs within a lamp-based projector contain Mercury, a highly toxic chemical to humans and the environment. According to the European Commission, exposure to Mercury can harm the brain, lungs, kidneys, and immune system, with the smallest amounts posing a significant health risk.

The EU has been developing legislation to reduce the use of heavy metals and hazardous materials. It has already banned mercury-containing products such as batteries, thermometers, and barometers. The latest regulation will prohibit the import and manufacture of mercury-containing products, including lamp-based projectors and replacement lamps.

Get ahead of the ban.

With the new regulations fast approaching, businesses and educational institutions still using lamp-based projectors should upgrade their technology to maintain effective visual aids in lessons or meetings.

With any lamp-based projector, the lamp ages and affects the image quality. This results in a short life span, and the lamp must be replaced frequently. Without the ability to purchase a replacement lamp, these projectors will become unusable.
